Matters of the Soul - Prophets are not Dead

This will be one giant project divided into a few parts, but all in all, there will be 10 topics with 10 quotes from General Authorities of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (aka: LDS, Mormon).

Temples

"The principles of the gospel are anchored and secure. Some of the programs and methods change from time to time, but there is no altering of the standards. There is a great sense of security and of protection in this... we cannot dilute it to suit their taste. We did not set the standards; the Lord did. It is his church."
-Boyd K. Packer 1974 October LDS Gen Conf, source: lds.org

…In overcoming challenges, I would say the temple and the ordinances of the temple are the ultimate application of the gospel of Christ. I say to people that one of the blessings of the temple and its ordinances is the perspective that it provides. When we go to the temple, we leave all of our cares and problems and issues and concerns at the door. And when we come back out, they’re still there. We have to pick them all up and they haven’t changed, but what has changed is ourselves.
-D Todd Christofferson, The Gospel Answers Life’s Problems and Challenges

We should remember that righteous desires cannot be superficial, impulsive, or temporary. They must be heartfelt, unwavering, and permanent.
-Dallin H Oaks, April 2011

Temples can only fulfill their purpose really if we are prepared. People are sometimes critical about our temple worship, claiming it’s unduly secret. But the access is limited not for secrecy, but just to assure preparation. We really need to be prepared and mature spiritually to make those covenants and then to keep them. They’re very sacred.
-D Todd Christofferson, The Gospel Answers Life’s Problems and Challenges

My brothers and sisters, temples are more than stone and mortar. They are filled with faith and fasting. They are built of trials and testimonies. They are sanctified by sacrifice and service.
-Thomas S Monson April, 2011, The Holy Temple – a Beacon to the World

Going to the temple frequently helps me keep a more eternal focus. It reminds me I am never alone. I have faith … that no … blessing will be withheld … as I … remain faithful to my covenants
-Neil L Andersen, October 2012, Trial of Your Faith

Those who understand the eternal blessings which come from the temple know that no sacrifice is too great, no price too heavy, no struggle too difficult in order to receive those blessings. There are never too many miles to travel, too many obstacles to overcome, or too much discomfort to endure.
-Thomas S Monson April, 2011, The Holy Temple – a Beacon to the World

Now is the time
to prepare for your mission... While this is important, remember that even more important is going to the temple on the way to your mission... But even if you are not able to serve a full-time mission, you can prepare for one day in the future, when the time is right, to go to the temple to make sacred covenants so that you can receive your eternal blessings.
- Robert D Hales " To the Aaronic Priesthood: preparing for the decade of decision" April 2007

The Spirit of the Lord seeks to bring order—specifically, to organize an eternal family through the ordinance of a temple sealing.
-Jay E Jensen January 2012, The Unspeakable Gift of the Holy Ghost

We fast, we pray, we ponder, we attend the temple, and we learn to be good listeners and observers.
-Jay E Jensen January 2012, The Unspeakable Gift of the Holy Ghost

Temples are truely the house of the Lord here on Earth, I know this by the power of the Holy Spirit of God which has testified to my very soul of this truth. I that which is sealed on earth within the temple is also sealed in heaven, and it is because of that that I have hope and not fear for those in my family who have passed away.

Hope:

There is power in our love for God and for His children, and when that love is tangibly manifest in millions of acts of Christian kindness, it will sweeten and nourish the world with the life-sustaining nectar of faith, hope, and charity.
-M Russell Ballard October 2012

Hope is an emotion which brings richness to our everyday lives… hope brings a certain calming influence to our lives as we confidently look forward to future events.
-Steven E Snow April 2011, Hope

Thank you for the sacrifices you make and the good you do. Keep going, and the Lord will help you. At times you may not know quite what to do or what to say—just move forward. Begin to act, and the Lord assures that “an effectual door shall be opened for [you]” (
D&C 118:3).
-D Todd Christofferson October 2012, Brethren, we have work to do

Hope is the anchor of our souls. I know of no one who is not in need of hope—young or old, strong or weak, rich or poor. As the prophet Ether exhorted, “Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world
-James E Faust October, 1999, Hope, an Anchor of the Soul

The desire of our hearts, of course, is not only to acquire salvation and immortality but also to attain eternal life with a loving Father in Heaven and our Savior in the celestial kingdom with our families.
-Quentin L Cook, April 2009, Our Father's Plan-Big Enough for All His Children

How do you remain “steadfast and immovable”6 during a trial of faith? You immerse yourself in the very things that helped build your core of faith: you exercise faith in Christ, you pray, you ponder the scriptures, you repent, you keep the commandments, and you serve others.
-Neil L Andersen, October 2012, Trial of Your Faith

A loving Father has provided a comprehensive and compassionate plan for His children “that saves the living, redeems the dead, rescues the damned, and glorifies all who repent.” 35 Even though our journey may be fraught with tribulation, the destination is truly glorious.
-Quentin L Cook, April 2009, Our Father's Plan-Big Enough for All His Children

No trial is so large we can’t overcome it together
-Neil L Andersen, October 2012, Trial of Your Faith

In addition to stimulating our repentance, the very experience of enduring chastening can refine us and prepare us for greater spiritual privileges.
-D Todd Christofferson April 2011, As Many as I Love, I Rebuke and Chasten

Fear and faith cannot coexist in our hearts at the same time. In our days of difficulty, we choose the road of faith. Jesus said, “Be not afraid, only believe.”
-Neil L Andersen October 2008, You Know Enough

My hope is in God. that was my family's motto from the 1600's. Ever since I learned that, I have definitely applied it in my life. My hope, my life and my salvation is through Jesus Christ. I find hope in the eternal perspective, and the possibility of change through the atonement.
